Memories Poem by Chris Meek

Memories

Birds fly on, the sun has gone,

The autumn sky turns grey.

Summer came but soon was gone,

Still hear the things you'd say.

Days grow short and nights grow long,

I wish you were here.

Sweep away the falling leaves,

Brush away a tear.

Rockets bright, bonfire alight,

The crackling fireworks too.

Woolly scarves and bobble hats,

Those good times that we knew.

Mums and dads and sparklers bright,

Could I have loved you more?

Say goodbye to friends we've loved,

Close our cottage door.

Holly wreaths and Christmas trees,

And winter's gold and red.

Mistletoe with kisses true,

All those things we said.

Santa rushing through the sky,

I miss you so much.

Put a log upon the fire,

Feel your gentle touch.

A year that's new, with kisses true,

And cherished memories still.

Promise made resolved to keep,

Forget? I never will.

Raise a glass to absent friends,

And sing to Auld Lang Syne,

Walk home beneath the starry sky,

You always will be mine.

A valentine, please be mine!

Words written on a heart.

Memories of love's unknown,

We never were apart.

Words that say "forever true",

I kiss your tender lips.

Take a walk down to the shops,

I feel your fingertips.

Budding flowers and April showers,

The spring days moving fast.

Sweethearts strolling hand in hand,

They said it wouldn't last.

Windy days a shower or two,

Life's love has run its course.

Find a space and park the car,

No, there's no remorse.

Seas of blue, a summer new,

And days upon the sand.

Children playing on the beach,

We still walk hand in hand.

Happy sounds of children's play,

Together both again.

Take the dog out for a walk,

You're with me in the rain.

The melody, reminding me,

Of places in the past.

Faces I remember still,

It went so very fast.

Yes we were both once part of this,

Now all those days have gone.

But in my heart there is a place,

Where our life will still go on.
