Meeting Anne Poem by Dónall Dempsey

Meeting Anne

Rating: 2.4

I stand stunned
as I come down

the incredibly steep stairs
as she comes up.

She looks so much
as Anne would.

Outside an Amsterdam sun
shines down on this tourist must

and here I am
doing the rounds.

I think that she is(perhaps an actress?)
hired by the museum

but no
she’s a real
live flesh & blood

tourist just like I

and moves like a ghost
looking at the pictures

of movie stars & starlets

as if she had just
pasted them there.

She leaves & leaves me

unsure of what I’ve seen

as if I had met Anne Frank

in person.
