Mea Culpa Poem by Subeesh Surendran Punneri

Mea Culpa

Rating: 4.0

We played, we laughed,
We swayed and danced...
Shared every pain,
And shared all gains

Her pain was mine.
Her smile made me fine.
Shared one heart,
And could never be torn apart.

Dreamt of setting a home,
And having children of our own.
Grow old with each other
And hoped death found us together.

But, as time went by...
She said good bye
I was the one who dreamt.
She was discontent.

She wanted her 'space',
Thats when I saw her true face.
Venomous and hissing, like a snake
An instant too late, I realised its all fake.

Darkness surrounds me now,
In a pit so deep and hollow.
Every attempt to break free,
Guilt prevents me from trying to flee.

How I ignored the ones who loved me?
Living with them now feeling guilty.
I learned mea culpa,
Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa......
