Maternal Tears Poem by Midifo Yearns

Maternal Tears

She sits alone, head bowed low
familiar pew and wordless prayer
the little candle says it all
lit with sense of faith and call
love is strong, though grey her hair
pained in heart, her hope is slow.

Dear son, she bore, is far away
from self, from God, from peace
Daughter too has taken different path
to walk brazen in the face of wrath
and whitened clothes to ruin and crease
with sullied use of this bright day.

In mother’s breast the question, ‘why? ’
Then loneliness attacks her heart.
With candle here she says her prayer
and from her soul there comes a tear
that cleanses and redeems her part
to make her free before she die.
