Midifo Yearns Poems

With age the questions come and go
and life begins its doubts to sow
for somehow now truth stands alone
and can no more be carved in stone;
...

Confusion reigns, things fall apart
with focus gone, no place to start
the journey that must lead to path
where seed will die at first, and
...

Smell of man labored by the day, scented
Sweated wet and hunkish peers out
From deep sunk eyes marked at edge
With kindness lines broken at the rim
...

Should fingers loosen and I be gone
Mere splash on earth, all lost
In futile effort to please, be done.
With all the cries and deadly cost
...

What a journey, what a chore. What a pain and open sore
Heavy steps and silent weight; heavy heart in labored rate
Pictures flashing through the mind break the seal to open door
To insight of a parent’s wait, the challenge on each parent’s plate
...

Secret hidden space, at core of all I am
alive with Life, creative breath
gentle touch of love that will not cease
place of silent stillness and of peace
...

Among stars of night there lingers still
some trace perhaps. Oh no, the darkness
thick and fierce, chokes eyes of old man
peering into night sky, with thin hope, to
...

On cobbled stone, whiff of chestnut and coffee scent
nostalgic walk through early darkness of winter eve.
Eternal city carrying hopes and fears, lonely Advent
tears of long wait. Beauty midst some tired facades,
...

Where has summer gone? Why is winter cold?
Does spring remember autumn past or look to
autumn yet to come? Can autumn smile at job
well done, lend strength for cold and barren time?
...

Dream shattered like popped balloon.
Breath and shape gone; hanging dregs
of yesterday; misplaced trust and gift.
She looked so lovely then. And he,
...

Etched on face, like flavors in an ancient wine,
kindness lines anoint her eyes, and wisdom
glance bedecks her face, this aged Gogo, whose
lived from way back then, and still tells stories
...

She sits alone, head bowed low
familiar pew and wordless prayer
the little candle says it all
lit with sense of faith and call
...

I seek in breasted stillness
to be suckled by the deeper sounds
that words can never say...

I wonder sometimes where we go
to find that road that leads beyond
and underneath the mystery flow
of deeper places in the pond
...

Cheeky gust of wind lifts her skirt
and leaves an autumn leaf upon her shoe.
She does not notice, she’s all alone;
sitting at the edge, sipping glass of wine.
...

Alone in lonesome pose, he sits and waits.
Face cupped in hands, not just this once,
and weary eyes that speak of tears long dried;
he’s far from home, the place he chose
...

Crucified and naked he hung upon the cross
they did not leave a single robe
that he could claim his own
his deeds untold, their lies unfold
...

Naked on the cross
exposed for all to see
a spectacle uncovered
defaced upon the tree
...

Death, O death you always seemed so far away
I lived with you as I do with each and every day
Unconcerned and unafraid I let you be
I noted not your faster pace, I did not see.
...

20.

Truth hurts they say. That may be so.
Lies hurt too; a double blow.
For in the lie, a truth appears
and that is why the lie ensnares.

Ageing

With age the questions come and go
and life begins its doubts to sow
for somehow now truth stands alone
and can no more be carved in stone;
for truth is fragile, life a passing gift
and all our certainties begin to shift
and so our hearts are bruised by doubt
our minds obscured and mute our shout
but there is beauty in that truth
and though the storm be rough, and
strong the winds, the sails are tough
and the hand that calms the storm
remains at the helm, and love guides
our lives to safe solace and peaceful amen.
