Mary Surratt On The Gallow Poem by ERNEST CLARY

Mary Surratt On The Gallow

Rating: 5.0

As I stand on this gallow, a wreck
trembling with a rope around my neck
looking at people looking at me upon this wooden deck
knowing they will pull the pin and send me to my death
in just moments I will take my last breath
hang me now I'm sick
torture me no more
I want to die quick
though I never died before
now I'm hanging from this rope so tight
my lungs for air begin to fight
struggling strangling my legs dangling
I will live no more
screaming crying thoughts of dying
as I dropped through the floor
seeing fears dreams under a cloud
over the town
hearing cheers screams from the crowd
on my way down
so I'm lifeless without sight nor sound
going to my grave strifeless
with plight under the ground
