Marital Bliss Poem by carole turner

Marital Bliss

As she reaches for
Another smoke
And pours herself
A drink
She looks towards the open door
'There's freedom there' She thinks

Her mind is full of questions
Her heart? It's full of hope
She wants so much
To raise herself BUT
She reaches for the dope.

Oh! Woe is me
She ponders
Oh! What to do
she sighs
Why can I not be
Like all the other Brides?

My Man he is a nightmare
My Husband, he does drink
Oh why cant I just
GO AWAY
In order to re-think.

While pondering on her tale of woe
He joins the living room
Oh! Darling you've been hiding
Oh Darling! I must pray
That we will be together now
Until our dying day.

So all night long shes silent
All night long she weeps
If only I can find another way
And so
She thinks
And thinks
and thinks.

Now she's got herself together
And rises from her chair
She heads towards the cooker
'Salvation there - I swear'

She pauses for a second
But not long enough
To think
And bows to meet her Saviour
While teetering on the brink.

So now she has her freedom
And now she's found her place
Away from all the tedium
Away from the great Rat Race.

But women please
Remember
After all that's said and done
When a door becomes
an opening
It's best to go and
Run.
