MAMA AFRICA
I grew up on your back
Wrapped in a blanket
Swaying as you sang and hung
the clothes in the African sun
I miss your soulful singing
And the vapours of eucalyptus
Closing my eyes, I can still see
The red earth burning under the ancient sky
Goodbye?
No, not ever
You course through my veins in my blood
The colour of the clay mud
that shaped so many vessels
Africa, my Mother who prepared me
For life's journey
Mama Africa, Mother to whom I shall return
When the journey is done
dear Lisa, it's a real pity I haven't received any news from you..: ( this way I cannot include your 2 poems in the Anthology ebook ''WHISPERS TO THE WORLD''.. I'm really sorry...
My Italian translation has been sent.. ;)
SOFIA is the intimate version of a human mother-daughter relationship, literal, immediate, concrete; this poem is the symbolic version of the mother-daughter relationship, metaphorical, transcendent, universal, but your words make it as real as the previous poem. You have evoked a whole continent and imbued it with a human and humane realism that is completely persuasive. You have internalized your place of origin and carry it with you, its life, power, beauty, truth - it's all wonderful things that pour forth from your life ans actions.
a song of love for a land (a continent) which was the cradle of all us.. Thanks for sharing, Lisa
