Madrigals That Once Were Green

madrigals that once were green

in the lilied days, I heard

filled with sorrow, light as birds

and the snows of ages.

years have gone and then recurred

why I cannot measure.

I will keep their music still

far beyond all treasures.

music soft as mists declaim

what I cannot e'er disdain

footfall of the coming night

when I seek my Saviour.

though the darkness hide the song

I will find it glowing

though the night shall mantle all

far beyond all knowing.
