Ma Normandie Poem by Tom Billsborough

Ma Normandie

Dark winged dreams, encircle me
As sleep alights upon my eyes
And bring a lullaby or two
To banish pain.
Or let her sing that song again
Of swallows that return in Spring
To Normandy... Ma Normandie!

I love that first line too...whoever wrote it. A lovely song and memory. Beautiful written Tom.

I was trying to combine Sappho's opening line with the image of the swallow bringing back memory. The first five lines of Sappho's poem are complete. This is followed by several half lines. Recovery of her work is still in progress. I wish the scholars every success in their work.
