Loves Elegy Poem by Brian David Holmes

Loves Elegy

The lonliness of a heart can be a powerful thing
It can devour the strongest man,
bring down the empires of a king
like the little bluebird whose lost his will for flight
or the worlds strongest army with no reason to stand and fight
you'll feel the grip as the precipice of madness sets in
when you see the quizzical couples
ever jubilant in their magical whim
your pulsating palms will never hold love so true
you'll never hear your bells ring, or answer I do
for she is the elegant butterfly, and he the elixir of her dreams
yet you are the anguished serpent, ridiculed by self-hate
filled with illusions of love,
but only suffer in a hope to die someday.
