Love's A Double Edged Sword Poem by Colin Coplin

Love's A Double Edged Sword

Rating: 4.5

(Music opens to the ABC News theme)

There's a pretty girl crying for the love she had and lost
Her pain is so deep, I hear her weep, her whole world convulses, in torment she sleeps
Her thoughts are unhappy, life's so unfair, it's tough being 15, hey, we've all, been there

Loves a double edged sword, that heals or wounds, the purest heart
It can bring you joy, or carve the deepest scar,
Loves a double edged sword, to be won, or lost
Some have found love better, some have not
Loves a double edged sword

By the window, sits a lady, drinking coffee from a long black cup
She looks so fragile, she looks so alone, waiting for her love, but he hasn't shown
It's not the first time, it won't be the last, being stood up is such a pain in the arse
I know how she's feeling, love is such a curse … but there are some things that are worse

Loves a double edged sword, that heals or wounds the purest heart
It can bring you joy, or carve the deepest scar,
Loves a double edged sword, like Excalibur lost
Some have shown love better, others have not / some forgot
Loves a double edged sword

From the theatre walks a lady dressed in diamonds and designer gear
Her husband left her, he died three years ago, now she lives with her memories, and cat Alamo
She knows she's lucky, she smiles a lot, she lives life in the heart, she minds not
She was once a mother, a crime at 15, she gave up her child, old tears still scream
Time is so precious, enjoy all that you can, tomorrow you could be, where she now stands

Loves a double edged sword, that heals or wounds the purest heart
It can bring you joy, or carve the deepest scar,
Loves a double edged sword, to be won or lost
It's better to have loved, than, to have not
Loves a double edged sword
