Love Taught Me Poem by Lora Colon

Love Taught Me

Love taught me how to sing
When no sound would leave my throat,
And when I was drowning in despair,
Then love taught me how to float

Love taught me how to pray
To a God I thought long dead,
Giving my thanks in these hours of joy,
All my doubts dispersed and fled

Love taught me how to hope
For things I thought could not be,
But I learned anything's possible
When love found its way to me

Love taught me how to laugh
When scarce I could find a smile,
I gathered remnants of loneliness
And sent them into exile

Love taught me to believe
Our heart's desires can come true,
No matter the hour nor circumstance
As our tree of dreams we hew

But then love brought such pain
When one day it said good-bye,
Just when I thought I had learned it all,
Love taught me how to cry

Ah yes - a universal experience.

Love taught me how to cry The tying all together summation is very satisfying. I gathered remnants of loneliness And sent them into exile. I found this to be the most compelling imagery. Well done! :)
