Love's Slow Death Poem by Wilma Horne

Love's Slow Death

He walked away
With no goodbye
No explanation
Just turned his back
On the one he loved

Months went by
Before she saw him again
It was his birthday
She went to say hello
But, he had another girl

She turned and walked away
Not saying a word
Years went by
Before they finally spoke
He was married
She still loved him

They reminisced about the days
When they were together
And about things that might have been
His wife found out
So they had to stop
The friendship ended

Months have gone by
And she misses him so
She still loves him
With all she has
She wishes they could talk again
Maybe figure it out
But while he is married
That cannot happen

Everyday she asks herself
'Does he love me still?
Or has the flame gone out? '
She wishes she knew
But she probably never will
