Love Of A Young Heart Poem by Carol Fleming Klein

Love Of A Young Heart

I gave you the love of a young heart
Love that was new to me
And untested
Love that was fragile
and shining
like the first glimmers of dawn
on a dew wet rose
like shimmering beads
of an untouched spider web
and the golden glowing
of an untried day
Radiant
fresh and shining

I gave you a heart unused to being given
A heart gentle but fearful in the gift
A heart hurt, timid and testing
A heart longing
longing to give
longing to receive
longing to find a home

I gave you the love of a young heart

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
First love, or young love has a power and pathos about it, that causes it to have a nostalgic pull on us life long, even tho' we may go on to other, better, and broader places. It bestows a poignancy and empathy which can enrich our lives from the memory of the experience.
And those who combine young love with lasting relationship can have a long and beautiful history to recall in later years.
