Love Forgotten Poem by Jessica Hughes

Love Forgotten

Acquaintance, we should have not
because I despise your knowing.
Hate is too good...
For lessons of you were hard
and I hardly learned the truth.

Until my age became soon,
I could not hold such a wish,
that blew a sweet wisp,
pulling my breath, leaving me dry,
as the purple lilacs in your garden.

Yet, they are beautiful!
In whose home do they scent?
For mine is of sour scoldings,
of the should have known betters.
A room covered in junkies.
The people of lonely tares.

But, I once surrounded you,
wrapped you in a bow,
to hold in my arms forever.
Forever ended too soon.
An engagement of maroon.

A bride wears not that color!
So we are forbidden to consummate.
And I took the lilacs that were left,
wrapping them in invisible papers to smoke.
Love I forgot in a haze.
