Lost Dog Poem by Brandon M. Moore

Lost Dog

Why can't I find God?
They’ll ask over and over.
They’ll ask why the dog
ran off too.
They didn’t give him
no food or water.
Put him on leash and
shortened it when he
stepped out of line.
When his leash snaps, they
won’t know why he
ain’t coming back home.
He was probably stolen
by somebody driving by;
they'll say. The thieves must have
parked a few houses down,
came into our yard and
broke the chain. They'll go
around to the neighbors
and ask if they've seen him.
They'll put up fliers and
offer rewards for his safe
return. But his owners took
him to a field somewhere
south and shot him dead.
Why can't I find God?
They'll ask over and over.
