Loss Poem by Lonnie Hicks

Loss

Loss:
sudden vacuum
on-rushing
wrenching
leaving
the unexpected
the senseless
the past times
the aloneness of it
the 'could I have done more'
the 'could I have loved more'
appreciated more
been there more
too much away
in some other mental state
now meaningless
amid sudden
realizations;
the 'could haves and didn'ts'
the too late sorrows
the unresolves
the diminishments
the less thans
the summing up of lives
yours and the departed
the reeling back of time
its memories
the starknessces
riven
through
life's memories
the departed and yours
gone
with it the illusion
of having lived life separately
is too
gone
far.
