Loser Poem by Terry Dunham

Loser

Loser

Is there room for a loser
in the kingdom? Can he
find a place next to you?
Can a less than perfect
one find reason to feel
welcome if he wants to?
Is success a prerequisite
to sainthood? Is failure a
chain link fence allowing
a disallowed only a chance
to see the blessed brethren
dancing exuberantly, and
smiling prominently from
inside! He did try, this one
looking with broken heart
and doubting will, to hope.
His obvious lesser degree
a bothersome pain to some-
one else’s pride. So who in
all this kingdom will dare to care and with loving energy
remove, tear down and generally cause to disappear
this invisible steel-like separation constructed by reaction
and conceit. The loser should be welcomed to the kingdom.
Be careful not to injure the denied. His Father calls to him.
