Looking In The Mirror... Poem by Chanel Jackson

Looking In The Mirror...

Looking in the mirror
And what do I see?
An unhappy, ugly girl
Staring back at me
Tears streaming down her face
Cause she feels so out of place
Battling the world on her own
yet she has nothing to show
except the wounds the on her heart
for those she loved had depart.
Shame had scared them away
“she’s nothing”
the girl heard them say
When she comes around
They all point and stare
And spit nasty words in her hair
Those whom she loved
Stood and did nothing
For punishment would come
Those who threaten were not bluffing
so they paid her no mind
as she suppressed tears from her eyes.
Tears equal weakness
Confidence equals strength
But now as she stares at her reflection
All she can see is weakness
For without her loved ones
She cannot stand
If she cannot stand,
She cannot fight
If she cannot fight
She must admit defeat.
So those whom she loved
Whom stood and did nothing
Punishment did come
Promised those who were not bluffing.
