LOOK WHAT YOU'VE MADE ME DO

What cause have you given me celebrate?
If your turned backs aren't deliberate,
Why do I pray to God to give me things you should?
Why can't I be picked when I could?

God wouldn't come to my aide
I've starred at the flip side of rights;
And I took the bait.
Look what you made me do
I was born to face the truth that truth isn't true

I stand against you today because am the child of you,
Sick of drinking same old juice,
Like Heracles defied Zeus,
So am I tired of you.

You've made kidnappers out of soldiers
Armed robbers out of comrades
Fraudsters out of intellects
Depressed thinkers out of the poets
And unbelievers out of believers

But today for the first time since I was born
I sing arise o compatriots and understand the message,
The memo Azikiwe, Awolowo and Belewa left me
Arise o children and take ye back thy country.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My country Nigeria is currently having a historical protest against SARS, an anti robbery squad of the the Nigerian police force that has been killing the youths unjustly and harassing them, but this sars killings is only a small fraction of the bigger problem which is the Nigerian government itself who doesn't care about the youth, no job creation, no security, constantly abusing our votes and rights, looting the national treasury to shreds, but the youths of my generation is currently saying no, this is my piece about it, the struggle continues.....
