To whomever you are, out there searching
For me, as I am here, searching for you
I wish I were perfect and unbroken
A great, unblemished masterpiece to view
You'll say you love me before you see it
But, look deeper, love, and dare to explore
For the surface me is a creation
All the best of me, but not one thing more
Look in my eyes and see all the hurt that flows free
Do you see the shattered dreams strewn upon the floor?
The futures and hope that arose and fell in me
Do you see a thousand rejections, maybe more?
Don't tell me you love me ‘til you've seen all my pain
I can't love another who'll fade away again
But, you are not them, and they are not you
And, if naught else, life's taught me to forgive
So, look into my eyes… Tell me it's true
Or see the heartache and live and let live
Look in my eyes and see all the hurt that flows free
Do you see the shattered dreams strewn upon the floor?
The futures and hope that arose and fell in me
Do you see a thousand rejections, maybe more?
Don't tell me you love me ‘til you've seen all my pain
I can't love another who'll fade away again
But, if you'll love me forever, say that you will
And, at the end of days, I'll be loving you still
