Long On The Shelf Poem by Chris Jibero

Long On The Shelf

Rating: 4.5

This heart is long on the shelf
Waiting for a buyer who knows its worth
Though film of dust has coated it
In many colours with free paint
Though many eyes have admired
It from some distance
Though some hands have lifted
And dropped it at different times
Though some customers have made efforts
To pay and take it home but changed
Their minds at the cashier's table
Though the shopkeeper keeps changing
Its position on the counter
To make it more attractive and new
Though he occasionally takes
It into his store to brush it up
And brings it out again for display
Placing it at vantage position opposite
The entrance to welcome shoppers

They still fail to purchase it
Not that they do not have enough
Means to pay and take it home
But because it was not made for them
The one who was in the heart of the maker
Is yet on the way
And surely will arrive in due season.
