Lonely Fire

I provide warmth on cold and dreary nights:

Thawing the ice away from your fingertips,

Brushing away all the frost in my sight,

On cold winter nights, kiss'd by searing lips.

I give light in the midst of darkness,

A comfort in the neverending black,

A steady flame to stand by regardless,

You depend on me, I will watch your back.

Yet when I embrace you, you flee away

With a look of horror upon your face.

You keep running, but I beg you to stay.

Screaming - is it from joy? Yet you make haste.

You count on me so, I just want a friend,

But why do you meet such an ashen end?
