Like Christ Poem by Adedolapo Olisa

Like Christ

The air he breathed, I want to leave
I know in me, I have my redeemer living
Left to believe to live in this reality
As an entity, this truth within is warring

The life he paved, I want to replicate
I know in me, I complicate his simplicity
Sin has blinded my vision of his mission
Left away from a glimpse of such precision

The power he possessed, I long to access
I know in me, I dare not evaluate nor assess
The omnipotent is beyond my scope of fiction
But by adoption, I long to grip the right by my position

The love he lived, I long to become
He is love grafted into the trinity of a being
I wonder when I will totally replace my hate to begin that journey
My desire will not wain, His Word in me can still overcome sin

Jesus my first love, loved me before I knocked on the womb of my mom
Saved me while I laid in the the depths of derision
Justified me before the judgment day is come
Began the sanctification of the humanity dwelling in the power of faith

Like David, I want my heart to pant for his presence
Like Solomon, I want to be wise but to choose as a servant
Like Paul, I want to boldly speak of my love for the gospel
Like Abraham, I want to prove the wealth in my redeemer's kingdom
but Like Christ, I want to be just as he is.
