Light Sleeper Poem by Casey Renee Kiser / snail viXen

Light Sleeper

I once dreamed I could sleep

You were there, bouncing a sheep's head
You told me the snakes were coming
I am here, armed with wide eyes
You are nothing to me but unbelievable

I will not sleep
If that's what it takes
To not wake up
As my mother

I once dreamed I could love

You were there, pickpocketing some devil
You told me the sky was falling
I am here, armed with a tangled heart
You are everything to me but conceivable

I will not sleep
If that's what it takes
To not wake up
As myself
