.
the night has fallen
and the moon has hidden behind dark clouds
.
it rained all day long today
from a dark and gloomy gray sky
.
my coworkers said goodnight
but not as if they cared if it was or not
.
the news on the car radio was depressing
as it always is these days
.
home from work at last
cold and damp and weary to the soul
.
I unlocked the door
and turned the lights on
.
the house was so empty
yet I could hear the ghosts walking
.
I turned the lights back off
and sat by the picture window
.
and stared out at the cold dark world
and despaired
.
perhaps music from another time another life
sung by the sultry Roberta Flack
.
would take me back to better days
and better times
.
The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face
she sang and I was lost in soft gauzy memories
.
from so long ago
from nights not lonely
.
I listen to her over and over again
lost in memories of silk and satin
.
and one more time
I light a candle
.
and put it in the window
where it glows
.
and I wait
.
.

The concept of ghosts portrayed in this poem makes it wonderfully wonderful
your comments are always so fresh and lievly and I wish I could comment on yours but sadly there is no box provided
Beautifully Beautifully moving heart and soul! .. With Roberta Flack, candle light, gray and gloomy skies, you paint the mood! ..
Most beautiful poem, amazingly conveyed, dear Susan, my poet friend in the USA. Thank you so much for the enjoyment this mesmerizing poem has given to me.

Magnificent, Susan. I see a break up, the lonliness and isolation that follow, and then the resulting wishful thinking. Such an amazing verse. A perfect 10.
