Let Us Not Eat The Fortune Poem by Saiom Shriver

Let Us Not Eat The Fortune

Let us not eat the fortune
within the cookie
nor the mango's seed
.. nor fork ourselves
in the heart...
said one

yet Sea Biscuit chomped
on the flowers of his
victory wreath..
after all they had
already been plucked

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
not an endorsement of horseracing... horses are killed in barn fires, poisoned by gamblers, have their necks and legs broken in races. Those
who survive in many cases live lonely lives.
