Let Me Ask About Her Poem by Bill Galvin

Let Me Ask About Her

So, let me ask…
Is she still doing well enough
Is her life less rough now
Has time treated her warmly enough
Is her life running smoother now
Since she stayed where she had to stay.

Let me ask…
So that I may know that she's okay
So many miles have gotten in the way.

Let me ask…
Because I don't know
Because I haven't heard
And she may think that I don't care
That I no longer think of her
Because I store a love where
It will not grow, where it will not dare
To seek support, to seek the sun
That we no longer share
Since the weave became undone.

May I ask…
Does she still greet the day
With her smile that lights the room
Does she still show the world
Her softer side
That unfolds like a summer bloom.

And, may I ask…
When she speaks, does her song
Still make a heart skip a beat
Still make a soul lift and leap
And, does her laugh
Still make the world smile back.

No…
No…
Don't tell her that I'm asking.
