Lessons Learned Poem by Hasan Haskovic

Lessons Learned

The name of Gods unspoken
Lies on my lips articulated but frozen
By the cold wind, everlasting
The remedy nature had chosen
To dim the diagram of faith on my chest

My lessons learned
Left no stone un-turned
As they were hurled into my face
To eliminate dreams absurd
Which yearned to wonder
And to wander into the darkest of places
And mountains that broke the sky

Stop dragging your wings
And spread them, or else you'll never know
If they were meant to fly
Or if they are just for show
Stuck with no dreams to chase
And the whole world to watch below

Experiences of the past
Always choking the empty sky with clouds
Not the thin layers of disgrace
Rather thick as my consciousness
And no darker, no slower in pace
Shifting to one though after another
So why understand me, why bother?

Still the reminiscence lies
Beneath the tree across the river
And the steps on which I waited for absolution
Beneath monoliths of lies that make me shiver
No room for explanations here
Only for terror

If I had a dream
It would be a nightmare only rid of doubt
With pre-defined events
Watering the drought
Of tears in her eyes

But I've found my heart right in my throat
I've found relief in all my friends
I've found answers to this anecdote
In old-fashioned trends

The sky may burst with beauty
As beyond the mountain it extends
Yet there is no way to solve the crisis
No word that defends
The emptiness of my heart

Even with my lessons learned
I, my friend knew this from the start
There's no answer here
Just the whispers of worlds apart
