Legacy Poem by Melissa Wagner

Legacy

Need I not,
a memorial made of stone.
Of marble, glass,
or gold.

Need I not,
books written about me.
Of my great deeds,
or heroic antics.

Need I not,
to be known by man.
For working any job,
and job at all.

Need I not,
to be known.
For my intelligence,
nor my politics.

Need I not,
any of these things.
Want I not,
especially.

Need I,
to be known for living life.
Just living it,
having fun.

Need I not,
my name to be passed for generations.
Legends told to their children,
and then their childrens' children.

Need I not,
my name to even be though of.
Need I not,
my name to be remembered.

I was just another human,
another soul on this Earth.
A soul saved by God,
by his one and only son.

Need I,
to be remembered as a Christian.
A living sanctuary,
for our savior.

Want I,
to be known for my love for others.
The love I received from God,
and shared to all I met.

Need I,
this thing.
Want and Need, for me,
they are the same.

I want what I need,
and I need what I want.
My legacy,
'I am a Christian.'
