Left Alone Poem by Ellen Ni Bheachain

Left Alone

Rating: 5.0

Left to be alone for a time,
Is like a broken wing on angels that cry,
They sing a song for all our woes,
For all of those that are left alone,

Been left alone can be an awakening,
Time alone awakens awareness in all,
You see, you observe,
All about and around you,
Yet, you are there amiss it all,
Alone and yet,
Among the crowd,

Get back in the flow of it,
Life and people and being a part of it all,
This is where you start again,
Getting back on that track,
Sometimes beginning again,

What left you alone can be heartbreak or trauma,
Losing someone close to you, lack of trust or betrayal,
'Better off on you your own' is good for a while,
To be left alone is not a life choice,
It is not part of our human nature,
To live your life alone,

Getting back out and about,
Meeting and mingle can be daunting at first,
Once you begin to heal or trust,
You know it is time to be a part of the crowd,

Where once you just observed amiss the crowd,
Begin engaging in conversations and meeting new people,
Will begin the process of not being alone,
Or re-engaging with those you distanced yourself from,
When all you wanted then was to be left alone,

Be it slow or at a fast pace,
You set the pace on how you engage,
So instead of observing with no engagement,
Become that person who mingles and interacts,
Get back to yourself and how you were,
Instead of been alone,
Find yourself again.

Absolutely wonderful, and beautiful words in this incredible poem. In ways we may not understand, nor even consider, we do need others in our life, and we do need to be in the lives of others. As John Donne stated: No-one is an island. Very nice poem here.
