Leaving You Behind Poem by Brooke Sanders

Leaving You Behind

Why should I care?
You were hardly ever there
You knew I needed you
It’s time for me to spread my wings
And fly away into the sky.
Where I will go to I don’t know
It’s not fair when someone you need ain’t there
I can’t bend for you anymore.
If I continue to bend I am going to break.
Hanging on to you is taking my own life away
My weakness is that I care too much.
I tare my heart open.
I can’t help you fix yourself.
But at least I can say I tried
I swear I never meant to let it die
It’s like I’ve been sleeping the last 15 years of my life
And now it’s time for me to wake up.
It’s going to get tough along the way, I know
But it’s okay
It’ll all work out in the end
