Lateral Thinkin' Blues Poem by Billy Henderson

Lateral Thinkin' Blues

WORDS & MUSIC. BILLY HENDERSON
(12 bar blues)
1, Well I didn't wake up this mornin', cause someone laced my gin,

No I didn't wake up this mornin', cause someone laced my gin,

When I finally rose, I went dowon my nose

Cause they also laced my shin, (shoes) .

2. So I went down for some beecham's, thought I'd crack me a can,
Yes I went down for some beecham's, thought I'd crack me a can,
I got back upstairs I was gob-smacked,
See I stay in a caravan.

3. 3. Well my Maisie she done left me, cause I'm just too fond of that weed,
Yea, Maisie she done left me, cause I'm just too fond of that weed,
Ah but life's for livin' baby, anyways, you're a lang time deid.

4. So I went down to Sookie Tawdray's, she lives up to her name boy, you can bet,
Yo, I went down to Sookie Tawdray's, she lives up to her name boy, you can bet,
Oh lawdy lawdy lawdy give me chastity, but not - - - quite - - - - yet.

5. Well Maisie's ol' man, he came after me, with his 45, and his eyes so full of hate,
Yea, Maisie's ol' man, he came after me, with his 45, and his eyes so full of hate,
But he didn't stand a chance against, my big 78.

6. Now ol' Bill, he done catch me, and I'm lyin' in this prison cell for my sin,
Yes ol' Bill, he done catch me, and I'm lyin' in this prison cell for my sin,
I'd have made my escape easy, but, - - I still hadn't unlaced my shin.

7. Oh it's a thousand miles to breakfast, but it's even further to Nepal,
Oh it's a thousand miles to breakfast, but it's even further to Nepal,
Well you'd better take your mac Jack, cause a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

8. Jeez, you can't keep a horse in a lighthouse, or off a bus your granny kick,
No, you can't keep a horse in a lighthouse, or off a bus your granny kick,
Cause the Leith police dismisseth us, and the sixth sick sheikh's sixth sheep's sick.

9. So don't live your life in no fast lane, and lay off of that smack & booze,
Don't you live your life in no fast lane, and lay off of that crack & booze,
Or you'll wind up singin' these lateral thinkin' eat your greens, - -
Blue blue, blue suede shoes – uh-hu.
