Late Night City Poem by Prarthana Ranjit

Late Night City

Rating: 5.0

the city lights look so mesmerizing beyond this river,
here, water flows creating rythmic waves,
& with the wind, they sing me lullabies.
trying to sing me to sleep.
like asking me to forget about it all.
but today, i can't.
so I walk on.

a photographer- he is enchanted by this view,
As I walk by, I stumble upon his bag on the sidewalk,
i expect eyes filled with annoyance,
but today he does not have eyes for me;
so I walk on.

Another pair of entangled hands,
Another pair of kissing lips,
I ask them to stop- loud enough for them to hear me.
but today they don't have ears for me;
so I walk on.

a boy by himself, staring at the sky,
listening to the rythms of the waves.
I guess my strolling disturbed him- he looks a little annoyed.
I smile at him apologetically, expecting him to smile back.
but today his lips don't curve for me;
so I walk on.

The wind betrays them all,
Bringing to me, their private feelings.
whispering their little secrets in my ear,
as it plays with my hair- violently, running through strands -
& i feel the cold refreshing rush,
Love is in the air,
n I m breathing in love.
But today, it's suffocating me.
So I run.

; ; ; don't call me tomorrow,
don't tell me you love me,
cuz tomorrow- I won't have a heart for you.
So I will hang up.
& then walk Away.; ; ;

I stop; caught out of breathe -
the wind plays with my hair- softly this time.
like welcoming me back to it's embrace.
& this time it left 'love' behind!
