Last Words Poem by Brianna Trombley

Last Words

Rating: 5.0

Tears swell her eyes
She begins to cry
As she says her last goodbyes

His last four years
With her he spent
Every moment without regret

This day would come
That they knew
But now it seemed
All too soon

He lay in the bed
Barley able to speak
The cancer inside
Making him weak

At her face
He could only stare
As he drew in
A gasp of air

He knew the words
Need be said
Before this disease
Made him dead

It came out a whisper
His tone sincere
I will always love you
You were the one my dear

She sat there watching
As he drifted away
Holding his hand
She stayed there all day

This love was true
Now, of that she was sure
And the pain of loss
Left her heart sore

Those words he said
In the end
She ran over and over again
In her head

From the moment they met
She always felt
He was the one
He made her heart melt

To marry him
Was all she dreamed
A wedding beautiful
So serene

But for him
She could never say the same
Until he muttered
His last words that day

Although broken
From loss in the fight
Her heart lay easy
At peace tonight

Knowing that
He felt the same
All the pain
She overcame

She exclaimed, I’ll never lose him
Even though we’re apart
Memories of us
Will forever keep him in my heart
