Larking Pain

(c) Pain

From REVELATIONS by PADMINI DUTTA SHARMA

The ship fades away gingerly
Like a prima donna...
Alone on the shore
I stand paralyzed to the core
Waving a goodbye kiss to someone
Even months before were not known.

The pain comes back again
Oh! That overbearing pain
That makes me torpid
Pinching at my veins
I twitch my chest hard till I faint
Falling to the ground thinking that's death
A voice reassures my inner faith
I am alive and not yet dead.

I can sense the breeze and the fog drifting
As I try to hold on to a log floating
I can sense a bird tweeting
Probably its mate has gone missing.

I am told we have to let go at times
And wait for the ring of chimes
Not sure if this holds true in my case
Disjointed thoughts make incoherent headways
Thrusting my mind to an endless chase.

While so many people come and go
Why only some leave their marks and more?
Why do they surface as part of our dreams?
Then suddenly vanish like mystical beings?

Destiny is a myth that has been assigned a role
It’s nothing more than a distant pole
The less one relies the better for them
Sighing lovers are not held in very high esteem.

Why did we at all meet?
Why did he have to leave?
Some scars remain unhealed
They stay with us forever concealed.
