La-Di-Da Poem by Bill Galvin

La-Di-Da

One of my most precious memories of you…
In the middle of a tough New England winter;
After you have endured a rough few months of illness;
We revisit a favorite vacation retreat
With a private beach in the Keys.
That warm and gentle southern breeze;
The shade of low growing mangrove trees;
The feeling of fine white sand between the toes;
The stress release provided by a tropical drink;
And the appeal of that hammock,
A few feet from the bay water lapping the shore.
You spy it from a distance;
And the child in you recalls the family swing set.
You hasten into the netting and begin to sway.
You are transported somewhere nice;
Somewhere good; somewhere relaxing.
A most satisfying smile takes over your face
And your eyes brighten.
'La-di-da', you purr;
As I help keep the movement steady and constant.
All your worries and concerns are melted away.
You are care-free for a few moments of your life.
The swinging is hypnotic and therapeutic.
I am so pleased for you.
You need these times.
'La-di-da-la-la', I smile inside.
