Just One More Time Poem by James Walter Orr

Just One More Time

What is it that I need to have
To make my life complete?
It's not to spread a richer feast:
I have too much to eat.

Why should I wish a fancy house?
This home is ample now.
These feet now walk the final path
My years will yet allow.

That which I thought would tie me down,
Instead has raised me up.
Long years ago I set aside
From view, the poison cup.

My hound dog left, and he came back.
He's friend enough for me.
God's own kingdom cannot exceed
The beauty that I see.

Each time I hold you in my arms,
The strong beat of your heart,
Drives in the nails that tether us,
So we can't come apart.

I need no more than what I have:
My life's complete with you.
I feel your love flow through my veins,
In every thing we do.

What's that which I yet need to have,
When all is so sublime?
Oh God! If you've a gift for me,
Just give us one more time!

Give us the time for one more kiss!
Oh, let our spirits soar.
Each time we hold the other near,
Just give us one time more.
