Just A Poet To Know This Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Just A Poet To Know This

I am not an advocate,
Of any politician.
Be they Republican, Democrat.
Libertarian or Independent.
I am just a poet to know this.
An observer living to seek truth.
And facts.
Eliminating delusion,
From reality that distracts.

Whatever is 'perceived' to believe,
By those debating to argue about.
Coming out of the mouth,
Of one who leads...
The current administration.
In Washington, D.C.
Demonstrating what many accept,
As more deception to get and expect.
I have witnessed these days,
Advancements made in neglected neighborhoods.
With affordable housing.
Either being built new or renovated.
And unemployment decreasing.
To see people of all races,
Working in places to not have seen before.

I am not an advocate of any politician.
Be they Republican, Democrat.
Libertarian or Independent.
I am just a poet to know this.
An observer seeking truth and facts.
My life to live,
Is not deluded by distractions.
And what is more obvious these days,
To witness with clarity.
Away from performances created for TV.
For the benefit of ratings,
Advertisers hope to profit from this.
Contradicts the conflicts and division sold,
To sell to the people accepting what is told.
And to see for themselves...
A reflection of diversity.
More accepted to believe.
By the ones living to be conscious of it.
Knowing those living limited to ignorance,
Are more subjected to accept and believe...
Their way of life is threatened to expect,
Division, racism and conflicts.

And...
If not yet there,
In neighborhoods where they live.
Ignore the progress.
With endeavors attempted with them in place.
To re-create what they see on TV.
Portrayed to have them feel,
Obligated to participate!
In a defying of rules and laws.
