Just A Human Poem by Ms. Queenie

Just A Human

I saw you once.
You were dark, I remember.
Even though you tried so hard to be good,
it was impossible to cry for you
as I watched you create your own problems,
and worsen them over time.
Later,
when you tried to come back to us,
you destroyed your homes,
and imposed yourselves upon us.
You were lost,
so lost.
I remember your eyes:
deep puddles of misery.
Hopelessness.
When you realized you didn't belong anymore,
that the earth had separated from your souls like ash,
and all was dry, cracked ground under your feet,
desolation shrouded you.
But we kept away from your darkness.
The trees bended from your presence,
and knowledge slipped out of your mouths
like water from a rushing river.
But in your eyes you knew.
Only you knew what you were.
You were something to be hidden from.
You were the ruins of innocence.
You were sad.
You were lonely.
But mostly,
you were just
lost.
You were just
human.
