July Poem by Maura Sánchez

July

It's been seven days
that everything feels like a daze
and today,
I just can't take it

I'm falling apart
Crying in the dark
Because nobody understands

I wish you were here with me,
next to me, holding me

Your smile keeps playing
on repeat in my head
over and over again

I can't even breathe
I need you here with me

My dripping tears
evanesced by the heresy of years
Vermilion fills my arm
but does not do me harm

As much as you do
As we do to us two

Reiteration of your name
gives me the blame
for feeling as horrible as I do

You are impeccable to me
and I love you so much
your martyr I will be

Though inexplicable
I try to make you see,
My feelings for you are abiding-
For eternity

My body disdains your absence
Goodbye is my adversary
Even in the distance,
mine you'll always be
