Julia Poem by Cynthia Buhain-baello

Julia

Intriguing created work of the 1800's
Encased in a tiny framed postage
A fascinating study I had inspected
The piece told her story in history's page.

Strange that such a part of that time
Can transport the mind to a lost era,
I held it in my hand, small as a dime-
Alive came the view of the young senorita.

She must have been a king's daughter
But the name was the artist's signature,
Alfonso XIII was the commissioner
Of the one-by-one art of detailed feature.

It was two hundred fourteen years ago
When Spain was here as our conqueror,
This stamp is much older than me, I know
It was designed by a Eugenio Julia Jover.

My late cousin left a collection of rare old stamps
and one of them is this piece from the Spanish era,
dated 1800's designed by Senor Eugenio Julia Jover.
