John Milton Poem by Akhtar Jawad

John Milton

Who wants to be captured?
Who is she?
Who wants to be captured!
Who went to a writer?
Who asked him to write her story?
Who replied neither he knew her beginning nor he knew her end?
Who went to an artist?
Who asked to paint her face?
Who replied he did not have colors of her face?
who went to an actor?
Who asked to play his role on the stage?
Who replied I haven't seen you playing?
Who went to a poet?
Who asked to write a poem on her?
Who replied I cannot see you I am blind?
To write a poem I need a touch,
touch me if you can,
a flying kiss to his eyes and he felt her beauty.
That's how Milton wrote his poem Paradise Lost!

With all his disability, he could create an epic of classical proportions- The Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained! When his external eyes were nonfunctional, his internal eyes opened and inspiration flowed out! A great tribute to one of stalwarts of English Poetry!

Inspirational, Akhtar. I haven't read Paradise Lost in a while. Time to go back to that classic. I've often thought that Milton is the greatest English writer. I suppose in my case it depends on the day of the week....either Milton or Shakespeare. Thanks for this gem.

When all senses are engaged, art in all its forms can transcend.
