Jack Murphy Of Church Street Poem by Francis Duggan

Jack Murphy Of Church Street

Jack murphy was an old citizen of Millstreet and sad to read that he has passed away
He was a man who worked hard for a living and respect to others he did always pay
For many decades he did live in Church Street and in his lifetime he made many a friend
So many miles of road he walked on after cattle and in Inchaleigh his life journey did end
Perhaps the last survivor of his classroom Jack Murphy did live to be very old
He lived through many Spring, Summer and Autumn and many Winters that were wet and cold
I still have mental pictures of that good man a happy sort in his ways he did seem
In Millstreet one known and well liked by many a person who was held in high esteem
In Millstreet he had witnessed many changes From the Millstreet as a child that he did know
Where the Finnow from the high country by Gneeves by Millstreet Town to the blackwater flow
He was one of the oldest of his generation most of those he grew up with to the forever gone
Jack Murphy won't be forgotten in Millstreet in those who knew him memories of him will live on
One who witnessed the birth of many a Season he lived on to be very old and gray
By Cashman's Hill he is at rest forever with the deceased of the Parish he now lay.
