It Poem by Gilbert Ortega

It

Rating: 4.5

There's SOMETHING that I wish for more than ANYTHING
SOMETHING that takes precedence over EVERYTHING
IT's really SOMETHING quite
small
and insignificant.
And if I told you what IT was, I'm sure you'd
laugh!
Is IT a wish spent on someone else? Well, maybe.
Or, perhaps, IT could be quite selfish? Yes, IT could be.
A curse on an enemy? What enemies?
On behalf of all mankind? What good would that do me?
No, IT cannot be touched, IT cannot be seen
And by the time you have read this
IT could have been granted to me
One hundred times over.
But, IT has
not.
IT cannot be asked for
and IT cannot be bought
Though day in and day out
IT invades my thoughts.
I've tried to obtain IT in my own little ways
I've tried harder and harder but IT is still out of grasp.
I can tell the whole world but it would be of no use
They would just shake their heads and have not a clue.
I'm passed the point of asking for help
I've thrown IT into the wind and out of my hands.
Again, IT is very minute and IT won't cost a dime
But the fates have shown that there just isn't time.
If you could pass IT on the street
you'd not bat an eye.
If you could hear IT, you would take no heed.
Although, you could never feel IT
for that is only left up to me.
If IT were to happen, I'm sure you would know
You would tell the by the singular smile
on my face all aglow.
But, time waits for nothing
So I'm not waiting for IT.
IT's just become SOMETHING
and SOMETHING is all that is IT
