Is There A Reason? Poem by Paula Glynn

Is There A Reason?

Is there a reason for the world being this way?
Is there a reason for pain?
Some believe in the devil,
Some believe in god,
But what the truth is,
We will never know,
And will never be able to prove.

I know I suffer and cry,
I even think sometimes,
That I know the reason why,
But the universe is complex,
And in this life,
I don't know what will come next.

Should I pray to god?
Should I ask for spiritual guidance?
Have a reading from a psychic?
What would you do?
Is there a reason for your pain?
Do you think you'll escape?

I have no answers:
God - if there is one -
Is above me,
And I know people want explanations,
But I have none,
For we all walk our own road,
We all are sometimes exposed,

But we are as we are,
And must always protect ourselves,
And when someone says,
Is there a reason?
I say my only reason is my own,
For this world is my wonderful home.
