Internal Destruction Poem by Cooper Gilliland

Internal Destruction

Rating: 4.5

With my closing breath, ragged and broken,
I whisper to you my love's final token,
There's only five words I want you to hear:
'I love you so much, ' I breath in your ear.
Around me closes a mind-crushing void
It feels like my life is being destroyed.

The destroyer is me, that much is clear
As I injure the one that I hold dear.
I've tried to hold you deep in my heart
But the anger inside me has torn us apart,

There's a numbing pain deep in my chest,
To leave you is worse, it's never for best.
I'm reaching for you, but get only air
I've lost you I think, for there's naught but despair.

If nothing else please remember me
As your love resides in my memory.
However if it's in your heart,
Just close the space that holds us apart.

'Come back to me! ' I want to scream,
'This ugliness is but a dream.'
'We can make it work, I swear.'
I'm only asking that you care.
