Insomnia Poem by Ibn Ali

Insomnia

Who can make me happy
Who can make me smile
Who can point me to the source where pleasure is derived
I woke today
With a grander canyon
An expanse in the divide
I woke up wild
The process of the day which made me tame
I need everything i want
Tomorrow is too late
If it comes at all
Lay your hopes on solid ground
Still you soar
You can't trust a cloud to break your fall
I have people that depend
On my uprightness and strength
And that's profound
It's another night that I can't sleep
Poor decisions
Decisions I've made, decisions I make, still making
Why would they trust me to be a pillar
Who do they think I am
What makes them think I can
My hearts not built to love
But I'm loyal
Nights like these
I wish I were a better person
Perhaps I'd sleep better
And dream
