Innocence Of This Compassion Poem by Uriah Hamilton

Innocence Of This Compassion

Rating: 5.0

Children understand
The sorrow of the heart,
They’re moved to such incredible
Acts of tenderness
When watching an adult
Unravel and fall apart.

I used to walk
In the summer evening
With the one I adored
Through a valley of stone;
And when the local children noticed I now walked alone,
They gave me flowers
And sacred prayers.

If my face turns skeleton
With dry withering eyes
That blow away
Like the crumbling mist
Of autumn leaves,
I’ll always in my mind
Remember and see
The innocence of this compassion
Shown to me.

In the innocent face of a child, we see our better selves. Superb last lines. Memorable poem. Warm regards, Sandra
